Devaramane is a hill station in Mudigere Taluk, Chikkamagaluru district in the state of Karnataka, India.

A Temple of Kalabhairaveshwara located at the peak of Western ghats Charmadi hills range at the border of South Canara and Mudigere - Chikkamagaluru!

The name ‘Devaramane’ means God’s home.

How to reach

By Road 🚘
The distance from Bangalore to Devaramane is about 275 km, passing through Hassan and Mudigere. Buses travel to Gutthi, the closest village, which is 6 km from Devaramane. Many KSRTC and private buses operate between Bangalore, Mangalore, and Mudigere. Upon reaching Mudigere, you can hire local taxis or autos to Devaramane. Local buses may be available to Gutthi, but you’ll need to cover the 6 km to Devaramane, where finding a taxi or auto can be challenging.

The road to the temple on the mountain is good but steep; sometimes, autos cannot complete some stretches between Gutthi and Devaramane. An alternative scenic route is through Kogile village. On the Mudigere-Kottigehara main road, take a left turn near Banakal (after Banakal town if coming from Mudigere). This route is steep in places and more scenic than the other route. A round trip of both routes is recommended.

Note: The temple is on Google Maps and easy to locate. After Gutthi, signboards are present, and it's often helpful to ask locals for directions.

A short 15-30 minute trek from the temple offers a 360-degree view of the Western Ghats and the Charmadi hills range. This area is also the base camp for the Minchukallu Trek, which is the highest mountain in the Charmadi Hills. Another scenic driving route is via Hassan and Sakaleshpura, with Devaramane being 55 km from Sakaleshpura.

By Train 🚊
There are no direct trains to Devaramane or Mudigere. The nearest railway stations are Chikkamagalur and Sakaleshpura, both about 50-55 km away.

By Air ✈️
The nearest airport is in Mangalore, located around 120-130 km from Sakaleshpura (Shiradi Ghat) and Mudigere (Charmadi Ghat).

Best time to visit

Summer ☀️ - Feb to May: Summer season, not much chilling weather experience. Too Hot.

Rainy 🌧 - June to September: This will be good for people who love to explore the place in rain, as this place receive heavy rain continuously in monsoon.

Winter ☁️- October to January: Best time to visit, fully covered with misty green and cloudy foggy climate.

Accommodation : There is no accommodation facility at the temple and Even though its a small village, No hotels for stay. Travellers can camp with tents without spoiling the nature. Nearest place to stay is Mudigere town.

Temple timings ⌚️: On normal days temple open at 5 am and closes at 10 pm. On Special festival occasions timings varies.

Food : There are very limited hotels/stalls near the temple, Plan your diet accordingly.😅. Neerdose, RiceRoti, kadubu are the best local food items to try out.

Special Attractions

A few minutes trek/uphill walk from the temple makes way to the speculator 360 degree view point of Western ghats. A small pond is mesmerizing to feel the fresh natural mountain water in front of the temple point.

Precautions

As said the last 2-3 km uphill drive is too risky and we have to be very care full. A good place to hangout with Family too.

My Travel Story…

So, As Devaramane is located in Mudigere, which is my wife hometown, it was easy for me to visit this place very often... I mean obviously am staying in Bengaluru, Usually 3 months once we visit Mudigere… Not all the time i get permission from wife,, to roam around whenever we visit here,,,,but,,,,

Just kidding bro..., 😅

but to shoot this epic place i waited for almost 3 years. 🤐

My vision was to shoot in post monsoon, when the meadows are green, no monsoon clouds, but scattered clouds with mild fog through out the day, sunlight peaking in-between, an early morning drizzling or fog, enough to fly the drone, not much winds, not much crowded, it must be either in the morning before 10 or evening between 4-6pm,, when all these criteria's are running around on my mind, i was eager to shoot like this only,, not to convince any aspects...

so how to do it? 😶

November 2021 - It's okay..

I met my friend DJI Mavic Air 2,, yeah,, the Drone. 🥰. I didn't give any name to it yet,, but he is more than a friend. back to my plan.., September to November, orDecember due to cold, leaves will start to get dry and fall, and later summer starts. by the time new leaves or grass arrives on meadows during march or April, that time we will not have any clouds or fog or good light especially to shoot a hill station,.. so in a year only 1 or 2 chances are available as the way i imagined to shoot this place. In 2021 it was already late and that time of the year I travelled to different places and couldn't made it to Mudigere, and also i wanted to get to know about the drone handling before flying it on mountains. so 2021 didn't happened. It's okay,,, to myslef,, Behen ch***... 🙃

Spring 2022 - NKN

During may, I visited Mudigere and it was a 3 days plan to spend time with in-laws, I had one day time to take the shot as predicted, I visited Devaramane and tried to take some shots at early morning, I was excited and waited for this moment, because until then I haven't flown on any green mountains, I woke up at 5.30, got ready, took my Ford IKON, the legend car, 😋 it was 30min drive, and finally reached Devaramane.

you know they say, expect the unexpected!!! I don't know how,,,, it was completely dry sky, not even single cloud, sun was already raised and in few minutes started glazing, and also it was not much green, obviously it's summer and spring season. I couldn't expect much green. The day before I heard there was some good clouds,, but on that day NKN,,,

I took some shots but it wasn't that good and i was disappointed,,,, angry,,,, couldn't do anything.. But I went to the peak and spent sometime sitting alone on those meadows with glazing sun and cold breeze,, no noice except the wind,,, birds.. the green grass were soft enough to lay down but lot of dew (Ibbani) on the grass, if my shirt get wet, my wife will scold me...😛. vyaaa,, just kidding,,,, after sometime, i came back to home. I told my wife everything.

next day back to Bengaluru...NKN adhe traffic adhe golu,,

Monsoon 2022 - Maa ka chai,,

October Post monsoon. All set, perfect weather. Everything fresh and new, it was 4 days visit to Mudigere. After reaching, the next day I felt the vibe is as I expected it to be, everything was perfect I planned 2 opportunities next day morning & evening. all set, batteries fully charged, drone card formatted, Drone calibrated, 5.30 got up, and reached by 6….

............????? what happened? 🤨

It was FOGGGGGGGGG. complete FOG,, NKN,, It was so thick fog,,, Drone will not respond to it’s sensors or can't even capture anything except white layer of foooggggggggggggggggg... f*ck fog!!! I waited 3 hours, to get the fog cleared. it was almost 9past. still no clearance. i decided to come back by evening.. while return i took some shots of Kogile village and its beautiful roads.. and that’s when I made Kogile premier Leaugue video,, Which is the most liked video of mine,,

I came back again after having big lunch at in-laws home, It was a nice weather,,, less fog,,, sun was setting fast,,, it was a good moment and almost same as I expected,, the moment I took my drone from car back seat, I realized something,,,, WHAT THE FU*K I DID...., 🥵

I kept the drone in car only after reaching home, I didn't kept it for charging for evening shoot. all 3 batteries were drained in morning shoot only,,, I tried to get to some shop and asking to get it charge 1 battery at least to get some shots,, it was already 4.30pm,, i requested at one shop and they agreed luckily,, I had to wait 1hr to get it 50%-75% charging, then only i can at least take some 20min shots.. time is 5.30,, sun was already set behind the thick clouds,, not much light,, it was perfect between 4.30-5.30.., even post 5,30 also is good, but sun was showing middle finger to me,,, saying,, Fu*k youuuuuuuuuuuu.... still I took some shots,,, one local guy shouted drone shoot not allowed here,,, nkn,,, some ice cream guy yelling at me,,,"no drone",,,, Inside me,,, iski maa ki chaiiiii,,,...................!!!!!

....sorry bro.,,, lost again the opportunity…. back to home.

2023 - No pain - No gain, No rain - No ???

This year, entire India has felt drought, due to very poor monsoon rains. obviously if no rain, no much clouds,,, no much dew,,, no much green,,, it was not planned visit to mudigere that time,, october 2023, me & my wife visited to se our in-laws, they were low that time due to fever,, just like everytime I go out, I took my drone too... it was 2 days visit.., 😶

- you might be wondering, why i had to wait for this long,,, to take these shots,, I could have just plan and visit and take shot when right time. right,, ,, if that easy how it supposed to be in this busy life,, i would be very happy,, I tried to go with my friends,, but managing exact time at that exact place is difficult with them because most my friends are born in different planets, so thier time is not matched to earth,, I tried to plan alone,, I was travelling very often to different places on almomst all weekend,,, i had to give time to family too,,, regular office life,, stress,,, traffic,,, finance issues,, what not.., I tried many options at different seasons couldn;'t satisfy the shots I took or didn't get an opportunity to to when the time was right,, but I didn't wanted to miss post monsson, so I planned year long visit to come to mudigere especially now,,,

so here am once again,, it's October 2023.

as said, just 2 days visit,, 1st day obviously can't go,, in-laws are not feeling well, if I go to roam at that time,, gone case,,,

I waited whole day,, next day morning I convinced them about Devaramane shoot, somehow they said YES>>>

same, 5.30 got up, reached 6., all set,, only my car on the parking,, no one there,, shops were closed,, dogs were barking at me,,, no people around.., I was sitting in the car, but this sound was making me angry,, it was tapa tap, tapa tap, tapa tap,, guys,, it's rain,, notihng else.. 😜

yessss,,, year long,, there was no rain,, but on that day it was raining morning morning,, belig beligge in kannda,,, kannada medium guy,, poor English,, just kidding,,

,,, how the fu*k i fly my frone on this rain,, right,,, no chance,, So without thinkning anything,,, without doing anything,, I was simply listening to tapa tap, tapa tap,,, rain sound guys,,,

after 2 hour it stopped,, it was around 9am,, weather was pleasant,, rain clouds were gone,, foggy clouds were dancing in the sky,,, I mean,, with wind they were coming and going and revealing the meadows,,, I tried to write like a poet but wrote like a chapri,, sorry,, meadows were greenish as expected,, sun was above the horizon already leaving spectacular rays inbetween the clouds,, no much windspeed,, it was cold breeze,, silence everywhere,, it was the perfect moment as I explined in the begining of this content,, i was overhwlmed,, I literaly lost my self seeing that beauty,, I even thought how can I catch this nature beauty on my tiny lenses,,, at that time nature was at it's best,, 3 years of waiting was finally came, it was literally nature itslef wanted to me to take a shot of it's beauty,,, even though am not a proffesional photographer, I tried my best to capture DEVARAMANE.. luckily that ice cream guy was not there yet,,, maa ki chai..,
